Discussion of Project Details and Action Plan
Round table
Outputs
- By using underground scanning technologies, an accurate network of pipes for the sewage system and water will be prepared in a GIS format (Survey Teq, by October 2021)
- By using Terrestrial Laser Scanning, a 3D model of the area will complement the GIS Map of the underground services (Survey Teq By November 2021)
- Baqa’a office engineers will support Survey Teq in the data collection, thus familiarising and being trained on the use of digital scanning technologies
- Building on the data collected through scanning digital technologies, an APP will be developed, aimed at capturing data on water usage from the residents (ThinkLab). The APP will also include a functionality to report issues in the water system. (by December 2021)
- The APP will be socialised with residents (Baqa’a office, Yarmouk University). (January and February 2022)
- Research report, dissemination and exploitation of results (March and April 2022)
Impacts
- Accurate knowledge of the underground services in the pilot area
- Develop a 3D model of the area
- Community information collected through the app
- Community information collected through the app
- Bridging the gap between users and service providers through the app
- Knowledge transfer at local level (Survey Teq – Baqa’a office) and at international level (case study shared in the wider context).
Insights
- Focusing on one single issue and delving into the details with an in-depth approach is preferable to tackling a variety of issues in a more superficial manner
- The key issue that will be tackled is water management and the water sewage system. Currently, plans exist of the water system but they lack accuracy. Due to the over-exploitation of the network, issues of water contamination and pollution materialised in episodes of poisoning, mainly located in the Popular Market and Baqa’a Medical Centre area.
- The Baqa’a office is central to the process of not only collecting data from the local community, but also for the research follow-up and use of the knowledge generated by the project.
- Major issues in the Al-Baqa’a camp: waste management, water poisoning episodes, insufficient sewage system, lack of efficient coordination and collaboration across different stakeholders in charge of vital issues in the area
